Mary Florence Joan Boland was born on 7 August 1915 to John Boland and Charlotte Peterson in Brooklyn, New York.^[1]

Joan was raised by her grandparents after her parents separated and her mother died, and she was known as Florence Joan Peterson.

Joan married Albert Smith on 6 June 1936 in Kings County, New York.^[2]

Joan married Raymond Koch in 1956 in Brooklyn, New York.^[3]

Joan died in September 1975 and was interred at Greenwood Cemetery on 16 September 1975.^[1]
