Journalist Mary Martha Corrine "Cokie" Boggs- Roberts was born in 1943 in the city of New Orleans to Congressman Hale Boggs and Ambassador Lindy Claiborne.[1]
She recieved her nickname of "Cokie" as her brother, Thomas, could not pronounce her name when he was a child. Cokie attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls school in New Orleans before graduating from the Stone Ridge School in 1960 and Wellesley College in 1964. At Wellesley she obtained a degree in political science.
By 1992, she served as a senior news analyst and commentator for National Public Radio and was their congressional correspondent for more than a decade. Along with working with NPR news, she was a correspondent on various news programs for ABC News such as World News Tonight and cohosted "This Week" with journalist Sam Donaldson.
For her work, she won the prestigious Edward R Morrow award, the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award and an Emmy in 1991 for her work on a profile for Ross Perot.
Cokie married fellow journalist Steven Roberts in May 1966 [2] and had two children. One of their children became a journalist in her own right.
She died on September 17th, 2019 after the breast cancer she successfully battled in 2002 returned.[3]

We plan on featuring Cokie alongside Larry King, the Example Profile of the Week in the Connection Finder on January 27th. Between now and then is a good time to take a look at the sources and biography to see if there are updates and improvements that need made, especially those that will bring it up to WikiTree Style Guide standards. We know it's short notice, so don't fret too much. Just do what you can. A Team member will check on the profile Tuesday and make changes as necessary.
Thanks! Abby
