I was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1965. My maternal grandparents were of Scots/English and Acadian descent. My paternal grandparents emigrated from Hungary in the 1920s. I have about 55,000 matches on Ancestry, of which about 90% of these matches are through the Acadians, most likely because of the mtDNA through my maternal grandmother. I have to say, I was nearly overwhelmed when I saw that ‘X2b4’, irrefutably establishing me as one more link on that long unbroken chain, from mother to daughter, back to Radegonde Lambert at Port Royal. As my dear long-suffering cousin David would say, the DNA never lies. My maternal grandfather I never knew. He was killed in the mine at Springhill, May 02, 1956, a single man accident, crushed by a rockfall, almost exactly 6 months before the explosion later that year that killed 39. RIP to all of them, and bless every miner who gave their health, their life, or both in any mine anywhere. I’m proud of my grandmother for stepping out into the unknown and making the move to Ontario to make a new life for my mother and my aunt. I’m proud of my paternal grandparents as well, leaving behind their home, their culture, their language and their families so that they too could make a new life for their descendants (and working their butts off to do so). My interest right now is primarily centred around Westmorland and Cumberland/Pictou Counties. I’m fascinated by all of the connections between the Acadians and (more recently) the Yorkshire Migration, but I have connections to all of the waves of settlers that followed the Acadians, including the Palatinate Germans. I wish I knew more about my connections to the First Peoples who were here before the Acadians. I also wish I knew more about my connections in Eastern Europe, but sadly my ability to read Hungarian is ‘limited’, to say the least. I do however read French, and I spend a fair amount of time finding “lost Acadians” in the NS Archives, as well as sometimes (the same process in reverse) “lost Englishmen” in the NB Archives. I’ve had some success locating records that were previously considered “unfindable”, please feel free to reach out if you’re stuck, I’ll do my best to help🙏

Welcome to WikiTree. Good job on creating profiles and entering DNA information! I see that profiles have been created for Levina and Ambroise. Since they were already in WikiTree, and there can only be one profile per person, shared by many descendants (unlike other websites where you have individual family trees), I will send you a proposal to merge them. By doing so, this will automatically add their ancestors and build the family line, saving you a lot of time and trouble. It is important to search for existing profiles before creating a new one. Here is a help page that offer great tips on how to do that. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:How_to_Search_for_Existing_Profiles
Looking forward to continue working with you.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

So any information I enter would have to be ‘personal knowledge’, and then (hopefully) the real genealogists could use some of the information🤷♀️. Anyway, thank you for your time reading this. I’m going to keep muddling along trying to get mine and my son’s information in here, and hopefully not screw it up too badly🤞
We do not download DNA Data on WikiTree. We do enter our DNA testing information and it is very easy to do. On the top right of most pages, there is an active button "ADD". If you hover over that button there is a drop-down box and the first item is DNA. Click on that and follow the instructions. You can enter your testing company and the type of test such as Y-DNA, mtDNA, or Autosomal (Family Finder): Ancestry, FTDNA, My Heritage, and GedMatch are examples of the companies. You will also add your identifying information such as the kit # for FTDNA.
If you have already entered ancestors it will take about 24 hours for your test information to populate those profiles. As you add more profiles the information will continue to show up on all the appropriate ancestors' profiles.
I hope this helps. If you have problems or other questions, be sure to ask.
