Colin Arthur Boase was born in 1889 in Gympie, Queensland (Australia). He was the fourth child of Charles Boase and Harriet Hughes. [1]
At the time of his enlistment into the Australian Army he was a clerk, 25 years old and single, living at Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst, New South Wales.Colin served in the Australian Imperial Force during the Great War; enlisted 22nd August 1914.[2] He was a soldier in the 1st Australian Infantry Battalion. The battalion took part in the ANZAC landing on 25th April 1915 as part of the second and third waves.[3] Colin was killed in action at Lone Pine, Gallipoli on 6th August 1915.[4] He is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery (Plot II, Row A, Grave No. 21), Gallipoli, Turkey. His name is listed on Panel 28 at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.[5] The Queensland Government acknowledged Colin's sacrifice in 1922 on their BDM death index.[6]
