Thomas was born about 1796 in Kincardineshire, Scotland. He was the son of Thomas Blues and Helen Kinnear.
He married Margaret Andrew on 15 August 1817 in St Cyrus, Kincardineshire, Scotland.
They had the following children:
The 1841 Census shows Thomas, his wife and nine children living in Johnshaven. [1]
On the 18th of August 1848, the fishing fleet of several northeast Scotland were out fishing for herring when a great storm descended. Forty boats managed to get back to their villages.
“About 4 o’clock, a boat was observed running to the west and standing for the harbour. On she came - urging through the whole line of foam. The crew were observed as if in consultation; they waved their hands as if in a token of recognition. Still, she approached: when, melancholy to say, after she had to all appearances escaped the jaws of destruction, she upset within a few yards of the solid beach.”[2] Thomas, his sons David and Thomas and Alexander Craig, the crew of that boat, all perished. The body of Thomas snr washed up at the Mather Lime Works. As of the 23rd the bodies of David, Thomas jnr and Alexander have not been found.
