Biography

William was born the son of Son of George Bleckly and Martha (Walters) Bleckly on 21 Apr 1814 and Christened in St Mary, Reading, Berkshire, England on 3rd July 1814.

At age 25 William married Maria Edwards age 28 in Dec 1839 in Wokingham, Berkshire, England, United Kingdom, where their first child Ellen was born in 1841.

In the 1841 census William is listed as Bleckley age 27 in Wokingham with his mother Martha (65) Maria Age 30 (his wife) and Ellen (0) an infant.

5 years later in 1846 William, Maria and their now four children Emigrated to New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America aboard the ship "Gilance?" which to me looks more like "Vinland"

Maria who was previously registered as 3 years older than William is put down on the passenger list as 5 years older and Bleckly has been written Bleckely (that 's a new one on me) ^[2]

In the 1860 census In the USA the family is in Dane, Dane, Wisconsin, United States and the surname is written Blekley (the 'c' has been dropped) William is now 46 and Maria's age is put as 47 (from 5 years older to 1 year older than William.) and the family has grown by one by the addition of Eliza. Ellen will later marry the John Bloomhow ( reads Bloomhall in subsequent references)

By the USA census of 1870 the Family is in Cedar Township, Floyd, Iowa, United States, and the surname back to being Bleckley, Maria although shown as F is written Marcus (I had thought this might be a transcription error but alas the census image shows Marcus - obviously misheard) William is now 56, Maria 59 (3 years older again) and Catherine is calling herself Kate.

"of Wokingham (of Biilericay ?) noted below his name on the pedigree chart of Chronicles, Section 1: Blecklys and Springalls by Lillian Clarke 1910. and above the legend in the bottom LH corner of the chart "Nothing know of this branch"

Two birth record give a different second name to 'Chronicles' . William Absolom Bleckly. Both have him christened St Mary, Reading, Berkshire, England 3rd July 1814, the second gives his birth date as 21 Apr 1814
