Biography

Jasper was born prior to 1500. His parents are unnamed in Peter Blake Sr.'s will. According to much research by William Blake, it appears Jasper was the eldest son of Peter Blake Jr. and Elizabeth (unknown) who were evidently deceased before Peter Blake Sr.'s will of 1500. Jasper's grandfather, Peter Blake Sr., named Elizabeth Spillman, his wife, his son John, nephew Thomas, and finally William Skypwith, Esq. as having responsibility for Rule and Keeping/Governance of Jasper. When he reached the age of 22, he was to inherit the Manor of Tonwells. See Blake Will & Pedigree attached.

FAMILY INFORMATION: Peter Blake Sr. B. abt. 1440 was married to Elizabeth Spillman/Spelman. Children: Peter Blake B. abt. 1466 D. bef. 1500 was married to Elizabeth _____? sister of Sir John Spillman (Clerk of Swaffam). She died also before 1500. Sir John Blake B. abt 1472 married another unknown sister of Sir John Spillman (Clerk of Swaffam). Mary B. abt. 1482. Was not married.

In 1522, at Wimbotsham, Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough, Norfolk, England, Jasper was Devisee Of Manor of Tonwells at age 22. See Blake Will & Pedigree attached.

About 1525 in Wimbotsham, England, he married Agnes (aka Anne) Picot (aka Pigott). Pigot-93 In 1526 he held Court at Wimbotsham. Jasper and Agnes were the parents of six children: Henry Blake-4644, Peter Blake-621, Eleanor Blake-4645, Thomas Blake-4646, Alice Blake-4647 and John Blake-4648. The following legal matters were recorded in the years following: 21 January 1528 in Wimbotsham, see attached Charter- Feoffment of 1528; 8 December 1540 in Wimbotsham, a Charter-Feoffment (which is a gift of land) in Wimbotsham & Stowebardolff from John Daneham see attached Charter-Feoffment of 1540; 28 October 1542, Wimbotsham, England, a sale of land to Anne Blomevile's brothers and Ann Pigott-Pygot's father, John Pygot see attached Sale of Land - 1542.

About 1542 in Wimbotsham, England, he married Anne Blonvile (aka Blomevyle/Blomevile). Blonville-1 See attached 1542 Blake-Ann Blomvile-Seward Marriage Settlement. Also, see attached Blake Wills Page 2. At the bottom of the page under "Notes from Deeds and Court Rolls" in Section 34 8 Hen. there is a note concerning a Marriage Extract. For the translation of the Marriage Extract see Marriage Settlement Extract Translation attached.

His will is dated 17 July 1547 at Wimbotsham, Norfolk County, England. NOTE: See the last sentence at the bottom of the will attached. Jasper says in the will his current wife was a widow of John Bastard whose will was dated 1530. The only widow of John was Anne Blomevyle.

Jasper died in August of 1547. He requested "to be buried in the church of our blessed Lady at Wymbotsham, under the stone of Nicholas Conwallys, next unto the sepulere of my wyfe." His wife previously was Agnes (aka Anne) Picot/Pigott. 'Unfortunately, all evidence of where the burials are located inside the church has been destroyed due to many renovations throughout the years.

There was a post-mortem conducted dated 28 January 1547 - 1548 in Norfolk by the Court of Wards & Liveries. See attached Court of Wards and Liveries - Post Mortem. NOTE: The Court of Wards and Liveries was a court established during the reign of Henry VIII in England. Its purpose was to administer a system of feudal dues and revenue collection. The court was also responsible for wardship and livery issues. This is evidence that Jasper was an orphan. See attached Explanation of the Court of Wards.

William Blake has done extensive research on the Blake family. He has found sources to trace the family tree back to Thomas Blake (b. ca 1382 d. ca 1439) of Swaffam, Norfolk. At this time, I am not able to enter the information because it requires Pre-1500 certification. I would like to thank William for all of this information that fills in so many early gaps in our tree.
