Henry Blair was the second African American to receive a patent. his first invention was a corn seed planter, 1834 and the second was cotton planter, 1836. [1]
Henry was born in 1807. He passed away in 1860. Little is known of his early life or his parentage. Although Henry died before the Emancipation Proclamation, he was apparently not enslaved and owned his own business. He most likely could not write as he signed his patent with an X.
