Helen (Blaha) Hinshaw has Slovak Roots.

Helen (Blaha) Hinshaw was a Pennsylvanian.

When HELEN ANN BLAHA was born on April 27, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her father, Michael_Blaha, was 42, and her mother, Mary_Zachar, was 35. Her first job was in a candy store making pecan logs.

Helen met her husband Tom when she was playing in a softball game in Brookline, Pennsylvania. Tom was working across the street at Fikes Bus Company. Helen married Thomas_Vestal_Hinshaw on February 17, 1943, when she was 20 years old. They had two children during their marriage. Her husband, Thomas Vestal, passed away on August 1, 1999, in Castro Valley, California, at the age of 82. They had been married 56 years.

Her oldest daughter Janice Lee passed away on July 29, 2011, in Pleasanton, California, at the age of 67, of alcoholic cardiomyopathy. Her youngest daughter Sharon Ann resides in Tennessee.

Helen died on December 23, 2007, in Castro Valley, California at the age of 85, of pneumonia. She was cremated and later buried on 06/14/2012 • San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, CA, interred with her husband, Tom.
