Susanna was born around 1800 in Caswell County, North Carolina.[1] She was the daughter of Levi Blackwell and Martha Smith.[2][1]

Based on her eldest daughter Martha's birthdate, it is out of the question she conceived her first child with Warren out-of-wedlock.[3] This was probably the reason the two married sometime after November 27, 1815, in Caswell County, North Carolina.[4] Susanna would've been approximately six months pregnant at the wedding.

Several years after her wedding, it appears Susanna's father died.[5] During this time, she and Warren had several more children together. Additionally, her mother also married again, this time to George Roberts.[6]

Sometime between 1833 and 1837, Susanna and her immediate family migrated to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.[7][8] One possible reason for this move was due to extended members of her mother's family, the Smiths, had migrated into Muhlenberg County some decades prior.[9]

Within the first decade of her life in Muhlenberg County, Susanna's daughter, Elizabeth, became pregnant out-of-wedlock. Unlike her mother, Elizabeth did not marry the father of her son. On October 10, 1843, she gave birth to a son, John Allen Weatherford. Susanna, her husband Warren, and her mother Martha were primarily responsible for raising the boy.[1]

Throughout the 1850s and 1860s, Susanna and her husband lived a rather peaceful existence in Muhlenberg County. In November of 1857, Susanna's mother, Martha, died in her eighties.[10] The last record of her alive is the 1860 U.S. Census.[11] As she nor her husband are found in the 1870 census, it is implied they both passed away sometime between 1860 and 1870. It is not known where either one is buried.
