Biography

William was born in 1849. He passed away in 1921. Buried with his wife Mary Ellen (Clark) Blackwell at Clark Capel Cemetery in Kemper County Mississippi. He is listed as being "Reverend". ^[1] According to the 1910 census William was a Farmer and land owner. HIs grave marker lists him as "reverend". He also is listed as having been a Civil War soldier. Under "military service" column "CA" is written. I assume this means Confederate Army.

Some sources say he was born in SC and others in MS. Mary Ellen - his wife was born in SC. ^[2] His granddaughter from Erma (Blackwell) Hasty (Lorraine [Hasty] MacDonald) and her siblings said that he was strictly religious, sometimes harsh, especially when it pertained to the girls in the family. They referred to him as "The Reverend". Lorraine recalled how she was often in trouble for being tomboyish, very athletic, wearing pants, riding bicycles, etc...with her brothers. ^[3]
