Biography
Elijah was born in Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ, the son of Francis Blackwell and Elizabeth Cornell. He married Martha Lanning by license of 20 Mar. 1781. He died in Independence Twp., Warren Co., NJ, in the area that later became Allamuchy Twp., where he is reportedly buried.
Elijah served in Capt. Carle's Troop of Light Horse during the Revolutionary War, and was also Commissary of Issues. He was given a nominal legacy in his father's will in 1791. During 1784-9, he was taxed in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co. He also lived in German Valley.[1]
