Biography

Lester was born in 1909. He passed away in 2001. ^[1]

Mr. Blackwell, husband of the late Eva Walters Blackwell, died Sunday, April 22. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Barney E. Blackwell and Maggie Lee Rogers Blackwell. He attended Furman University. He retired after 42 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Letter Carriers Association. Mr. Blackwell was a member and deacon of Rosewood Baptist Church and was a former member of the Columbia Choral Society.

Surviving are sons, Joe D. Blackwell of Greenville, James A. Blackwell and Lester J. Blackwell Jr. of Columbia; a brother, Bryan Livingston Blackwell of Hartsville; sisters, Miriam Myers of Scranton, and Martha Windham of Greenville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Barney Blackwell, Burney Blackwell and Clyde J. Blackwell Sr.
