Karita, welcome to the Appalachia Project - South Central Appalachia Team!

When you have the chance, please add your South Central Appalachia interests next to your name on our South Central Team page. While you’re there, you can read what others are working on and get to know us a little bit. Then join us on the Discord channel – we are a friendly bunch!

Also, please review our Reliable (and Unreliable) Sources for the Appalachia Project to help with sourcing our Profiles as you add or come across them. WikiTree requires valid sources on all Profiles and our Project has certain requirements for sources. Check the Appalachia Stickers Page for tips on adding stickers to profiles. In fact, you can add a team sticker to your own page!

I am always available for any questions or help. Thanks for joining the team.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Welcome back, Karita. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the years.

You joined long before we started sharing the How-to pages with members. It has some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members.

Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

Hi,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi!

Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.

Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.

WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)

Do you have any questions I can help with?

Hi Karita!

Thank you for your decision to contribute. WikiTreers have all sorts of skills, but one common interest - genealogy. I would recommend first looking around and become familiar with the various functions.

The main menu, located at the top right of the page, offers access to the most important features amongst them your Wiki-ID. In the help section »G2G« at the bottom, you’ll find the WikiTree online help. You can ask all sorts of questions, technical and others, and because WikiTree is worldwide, there is almost always someone online, who can give a qualified answer. Good luck! - And don't forget to sign the Honor Code. Pleasure to have you onboard.

I'm looking forward to contributing to the information that has already been collected on my family(s). Thanks to others before me, much of my family tree has been verified and I hope to continue searching further and sharing what I have with living relatives and descendants to come. I am the only one in my immediate family who is collecting this, so the appreciation comes from all of us who benefit.
