Obituary

Luther Columbus Blackston, 92, of Easley, SC, and widower of Suzanna Evia (Kay) Blackston, died Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, he was a son of the late George W. Blackston and Margaret J. (Galloway) Blackston.

He was a retired employee of the Arial Plant of Alice Manufacturing and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and an usher.

Surviving are sons, Clifton Blackston and wife, Ruth, of Greenville, and Harold Blackston of Easley; daughters, Margaret Collins and husband, Floyd, Ollie Nix and husband, Richard, Virginia Porter and husband, Leland, and Faye Leslie and husband, Arnold; and a special daughter-in-law, Grace Blackston, all of Easley; brothers, Colie Blackston and Rev. Dewitt Blackston, both of Easley; grandchildren, Karen Anderson, Wendell Collins, Gail McCachren, Barry Blackston M.D., Tammie Collins, Keith Blackston, Kevin Blackston, Stacy Doyle, Tonya Rogers and Darren Deitz; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his wife and parents,

Mr. Blackston was predeceased by brothers, Lesley Blackston and Roy Blackston; and a sister, Lizzie Corn.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2005 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Dr. Melvin Aiken officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the funeral home.
