Duncan Black was born about 1762-1765 in Scotland. His parents are currently unknown.
Duncan Black migrated from Scotland to United States.
He is believed to be one of five brothers who immigrated to North Carolina from Isle of Jura, Scotland, having been encouraged to come to North Carolina by Governor Gabriel Johnston who promised, among other things, free land grants and freedom from taxation for ten years.
Duncan Black was married to Nancy in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Nancy's maiden name may have been Gallbreath. The date of their marriage is unknown. He and Nancy were the parents of at least eight children. The family of Duncan Black lived about one-quarter mile from Galatia Presbyterian Church near the bank of Little Rockfish Creek.
In 1809, Duncan Black and other men who lived on Big Rockfish Creek formed the "Big Rockfish Navigation Company," the purpose of which was to keep Big Rockfish Creek clear for navigation and commerce.
Duncan Black passed away about 1830.
On 27 Nov 1830 in a document known as the "Dower to Nancy Black" Estate Paper (Record of Deeds Book 40 Page 12, Cumberland County, North Carolina), Duncan Black's land was described as being adjacent to that of his brother, Archibald Black.
There was a division of property by the heirs of Duncan Black in Cumberland County, North Carolina in 1833 (Record of Deeds Book 41 Page 48-49-50, Cumberland County, North Carolina.) Named as heirs:
