Robert died on 7th July 1958 at the General Hospital, South Shields, County Durham. Cause: Senility; Enlarged Prostate; Urinary infection.

Note: Sailor residing at home in 1901 Census. Mariner in 1903 residing at 24 Eldon Street, South Shields. Mate in Merchant Service in 1905. Master Mariner (Certificate 003043 with Special Qualifications "Steamships") passed in Sunderland in 1909. Two of his ships that he was Captain of were sunk in WW1 (War loss) and one in collision in River Tyne in 1914. Master Mariner residing at 90 Baring Street, South Shields in 1918, 1920 and 1921. Master Mariner in 1923.
