Elijah married Mary Louisa Coakley (1833 - 1897). Their daughter was Henrietta (Bishop) Montgomery (~1871 - 1914).
Elijah died on 1 Mar 1912 in Smithsburg aged 78. He is buried in Smithsburg Cemetery , Smithsburg.
