Elizabeth Potts (Fitzhugh) Birney (1802-1869) was not the mother of William Birney as currently shown here. Elizabeth Potts Fitzhugh did not marry William's father, James Gillespie Birney Jr. (1792-1857), until 21 years after William was born. It was Agatha Ann L (McDowell) Birney (1798-), the first wife of James Gillespie Birney, who was the mother of William.
