Pleasant Hart Bigger was born on July 21, 1820 in Spencer, Owen County, Indiana.[1] He was the son of James Bigger and Elizabeth Hart.[1]
Pleasant married Margaret Bellows on January 5, 1840 in McLean County, Illinois.[2] They had 2 known children, James H. and Sarah A. Bigger.[3] Margaret died about 1845.[1] Pleasant next married Sarah Ann Hibbs on October 13, 1848 in McLean County.[4] They had known children John C., Mary and Joseph.
Pleasant married Sarah Fuhrman around 1864.[1] (In the 1900 census, Sarah and Pleasant say they've been married 38 years.)[5] She and Pleasant had at least 7 more children (she says she has had 11, all living)[5] In the 1870 census, there is a Bigger male, Cornelius (age 16) but he was born in Ohio and is most likely a child of Sarah Fuhrman with a surname of Scott (her first husband).[6] Additionally, Edwin Bigger (found in the 1870 census) is possible Edward Loving, son of Sarah's second husband and not Pleasant.[6]
Sarah & Pleasant lived out their lives in Woodford County. He died on July 4, 1904. He is buried in Bigger-Hibbs Cemetery, El Paso Township (Woodford County), Illinois.[7]
