Biography

This profile is part of the Hanborough, Oxfordshire One Place Study.

Birth

Ann was born in 1840 in Hanborough.[1] She was the daughter of Joseph Berry and Sophia Whitley. Her baptism took place at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 21st June 1840 and her father gave his occupation on the register as labourer.[2]

Marriage

George Thornton and Ann Barry (sic) were married at All Saints, Poplar, Middlesex on 27th February 1860.[3] They were bachelor and spinster and both living in the Isle of Dogs. George was of full age, a labourer and the son of John Thornton, also a labourer. Ann was a minor and the daughter of Joseph Barry (sic) who was a labourer. George signed his own name on the register whilst Ann could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Samuel Parker and Ann Thornton.[4]
