A soldier of the Revolution, Walter enlisted in 1776 or 1777 in Captain Radikin's Virginia Company, where he served for one year; in 1778, he removed to Henry County and enlisted in Captain Jesse Heard's Virginia Company of Cavalry, which took him into North and South Carolina, attached to Colonel Davis's regiment. He returned to Virginia and continued to serve against the Tories until the spring of 1781, when he volunteered to go against Cornwallis; serving in Colonel Lyon's regiment, he marched to Guilford Court House.[1]
