This William seems to be a mix and match of facts from different William Bentley's lives.

Sources researched include all those listed in the Name Study and the Sub project Bentley Families of Colonial New England. The above pages discuss the known William Bentleys (there is more than one) who could be confused with this William.

William was listed as a child of William Bentley and Mary Goodwin. However, there is no source to support them as parents. The wills of both parents do not mention a son named William.

If this William immigrated to America, a source is needed.

His death date is the same of William and Mary's son John. The same John has a son William whose birth date is September 13 but in 1640. This William is the immigrant to America on the Arabella. His information is often cited by people. There is also also John who was believed born in 1619. The last John came over on the Truelove and nothing else is known about his life, yet is information also often cited by people. William Bentley and Mary Goodwin have been very popular for genealogists to connect with over the years, many more times than the known children they had.

I have deleted Elstow as his birthplace as there's nothing to indicate that he was from there
