James was in a military record on 2 November 1861 in Alexander County, North Carolina.^[2]

In the 1870 census James (age 49) was the head of household in Sugar Loaf Township, Alexander, North Carolina, United States.^[3]

James was mentioned on a memorial in Nelsons Chapel Cemetery, Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States with a death date of 4 May 1908.^[4]

Research Notes

The following Family Search database^[5] lists the father of James as Thomas married to Hannah. If the sources check out, I believe James father to be this Thomas Bentley whose father was Benjamin Bentley who is tied into the larger tree.

Larkin's death certificate

On Larkin's death certificate^[6] his mother is listed as Salley Kerley. This document also lists Larkin's spouse name as Amie Kerley (which needs to be explored further).

In the 1860 census, James, Sarah and Larkin are all in the same household. This would suggest Jame's wife was possibly a Sarah Sallie Kerley? It also seems to suggest Jame and Sarah's son Larkin married someone from his mother's family? Currently the profile for Larken lists a Amie C Mitchell but the find a grave cited on his profile lists Amie C. Kerley. Not sure if there is an Amie Kerly profile on here
