Christopher Benson was born 29 September 1720 in Devon England[1]. He served as Justice of Peace in New York from 1765 - 83. He married Mary Simmons in New York[2],
Arrived at Granville, Nova Scotia, on August 27th, 1783 with the Loyalists. He was one of original grantees in Annapolis, settled at Granville, and became J.P. In his Memorial, he is named Captain Christopher Benson, and his family includes 1st Lt Christopher Benson, Jr., and 2nd Lt. William Benson.[3][4]
He served with the New York Rangers and was a Major in Annapolis Regiment of Militia.
When the Lord Mayor of London, England visited Annapolis, Nova Scotia, he was only one of sufficient education to be able to deliver the oration.
He died in Annapolis, on 21 June 1817[1].
