Life Sketch • Daniel, a 6th generation Bennett in America, was the son of Ishmael and Abigail Beers Bennett, born 10 December 1784, in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. When Daniel was about a year old, his parents moved to Hanover Township in 1788, located 4 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre. Sarah Adams was also born in Wilkes-Barre to Abraham and Susannah Fornum Adams 10 December 1787. Two years before her birth, her parents migrated to the area from Sussex, New Jersey.

Daniel (20) and Sarah (17), were married in Wilkes-Barre in 1804. Their 1st child, a son William was born in Wilkes-Barre in 1807. In 1808, the young couple migrated 445 miles west from Wilkes-Barre to an area known as Big Walnut, which became Harlem Township in 1810.

Daniel and Sarah had ten children in Harlem Township, Delaware, Ohio: the 2nd child, a daughter Harriet in 1809; the 3rd child, a daughter Hannah in 1811; the 4th child, a daughter Susannah in 1812; the 5th child, a daughter Clarcy (Lucy) in 1814; the 6th child, a daughter Huldah; the 7th child, a son Daniel in 1819; the 8th child, a daughter Sarah in 1821; the 9th child, a daughter Mary in 1825; the 10th child, a son Russell in 1826; and the 11th child, a son John in 1829.

Historical accounts said that he was a farmer who bought "150 acres of land; afterward bought 200 acres more.” He was also a Methodist Preacher. “When a young man he was licensed to preach in the Harlem Methodist Episcopal Church, and shortly after coming to Ohio was ordained, and was one of the first ministers to locate in Harlem Township, and for fifty-three years was a faithful worker in the church, and during that time received no pay for his labor.

For many years, his house was the preaching point, and when building his last residence, he built one large room for that purpose. He was one of the prime movers in building the present Harlem Church, which was erected in 1838.” Daniel died 17 June 1861. Eleven years later, his wife Sarah passed away 6 August 1872. Both died in Harlem Township and were buried in the Harlem or Buddtown Cemetery.
