Claudia Katherine Bell was born on 07 July 1913 in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama.[1][2][3] Her parents were Fletcher Talmadge Bell (1881-abt.1956) and Clara M. (Hollis) Bell (abt.1890-abt.1959)[4][5]
She was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1920 and 1930 United States Censuses. In 1920 they were living in Mt. Meigs, Montgomery County, Alabama. In 1930, they were living in Drifton, Jefferson County, Florida.[6][7]
Claudia K. Bell and Charles Parkhill Mays were married on 11 June 1930 in Madison County, Florida.[8] They were the parents of at least 2 children.[3]
Katherine and C. P. Mays and their family were enumerated on the 1940 United States Census living in Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida. C. P.'s mother was a member of the household. Katherine, who had completed 4 years of college, was working as a teacher in a public school.[9]
From her obituary: "Mrs. Mays received her baccalaureate and master's degrees from Florida State College tor Women, now Florida State University. She had a long and distinguished career as a school teacher in the Jefferson County School System and Aucilla Christian Academy prior to her retirement. She spent her summers at her home in Highlands, NC, where she was active in the Highlands Theatre. Mrs. Mays was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monticello, the Monticello Garden Club and the Caroline Brevard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Tallahassee. She was a direct - descendent of pre-Revolutionary figure Col. Thomas Avent and Revolutionary Patriot Capt. William Polk."[3]
Claudia Katherine (Bell) Mays passed away on 04 March 2000 at the age of 86. According to Social Security records her last place of residence was in Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida. Her obituary said she died at home in Monticello.[2] She was buried in Roseland Cemetery, Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida.[3][10]
