George W. Belcher was born in Virginia about 1818, the son of Francis Belcher and Charlotte Dunn. He may have served in the Confederate Army or Navy. Many US Civil War records exist for a George W. Belcher, but it is not certain which records might be his records. He was 43 years old when the war broke out in 1861.
He was married three times:
Mary Pinkard Belcher, who born him over a dozen children, probably including Elias Edward Belcher, born 1854, a pioneer of Hillsborough (now Pinellas) County, Florida. Mary Pinkard Belcher died May 11, 1855.
Martha Ann Belcher Belcher, who bore him at least six children, and passed away about 1876.
Isabelle Unknown Belcher, whose maiden name and childbearing status is still unknown at this time. She was only married to George W. Belcher for two years at the end of his life.
He passed away in Virginia in 1881, possibly near Leatherwood, Virginia. He is buried in Leatherwood, Virginia
