Biography

    • NEW Status Update: I am happy to announce that after being on Medical Leave for almost 2 years I am gradually going to try to ease my way back into working on WikiTree. I am going to try to sit and do this for 15 minutes at a time for a while and see if my back will let me do that. If so I will gradually build my way into the swing of things. Entered by Barbara Jean (Beebe) Duren, June 30, 2018.

Wish I could afford to go to the sites where you have to pay. For those of you who can I'm happy for you but, I wish you could remember that all of us can not do that so, we find it harder to find sources. If I could do that I could source many of the things I have not been able to source properly. I became interested in Genealogy 45 or 50 years ago but, had not been taught how to do it as I was a young girl of 10 and did not know how to source my information. Nor, where to go to find sources to back up what I knew and what I had found. Knew nothing about Family Group Sheets. Don't know when they first came out. Now that I know about them I am trying to make up for lost time. I became passionate about it when I was 10 because, my mother's...father died when she was only 5 years old and knew next to nothing about him. She died in 1996 and I still am trying to find out a little bit about him with no success. Most who know me would probably say I am passionately, working on Genealogy all the time and I am still a perfectionist. Trying to find all the correct information and sources that I can and enter them on paper and then on-line. Many believe in making what I call... in other words probably not a word you will find in the dictionary but I do in deed call them [guesstament's]. Yes, from time to time here on WikiTree we have to, (or) should I say are suppose to make them. I prefer, to make them only when doing research. When I do make them here: I try to remember to mark them uncertain and tell how I came up with it. Entered by Barbara Jean December 11, 2015.

As my dad use to say, "The difficult things will be done sooner but, the impossible things may take just a little bit longer." In other words you never stop trying to find the answer to solve the problem or searching for the mysterious answer that is waiting around the corner and can and [will be found (or else)! As long as you don't stop search for it. Most of you probably don't have any idea of what he meant by the term (or else)! But, I'm fairly sure someone out there understands all to well what he meant when he used it. lol (or) as one of my preacher's use to say holler {ouch!} He was referring to Biblical things and whether we believed them or followed them or not. Just so you know, my mother loved doing the family tree stuff, but she died May 2019. I will be trying to fill in info for my family to start where she left off. What military war project are you talking about, please if you don't mind me asking?

Hello, Barbara,

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Military and War Project, and we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member.

If you wish to remain, please let us know how you have been contributing to the tasks and goals of the project or any of its sub-projects recently, it would be very helpful to the leaders.

If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things and remove you from the project. You will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.

Thank you,

Hi Barbara Jean,

I haven’t heard back from you about the United Kingdom Project breaking up into the individual country-level projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I hope all is well with you. I assume you don’t wish to join any of them at present, and will go ahead and remove the United Kingdom badge. If you wish to join England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the future, you would be most welcome to do so via the respective G2G sign-up post.

Many thanks for all your contributions,

Susie :-)

Just FYI, as I replied to a Deb Durham... My mom died May 2019. I recently joined wikitree to see about starting where my mom left off for my family. But what project are you talking about that she was working on? Was it for my family from the UK?

Hello, Barbara,

On behalf of the Military and War Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members.

First, we want to thank you for your past participation in the project. We appreciate your desire to honor your ancestors for their service to their countries, or even for your service, wherever in the world. We hope that your membership has enhanced your WikiTree experience.

Please let me know, by commenting on my profile or sending a private message, if you are still active in the project, and if so, in a general sense how you may have contributed to the main project or any sub-projects within the last couple months.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Barbara Jean

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Categorization Project and as we haven't heard from you, we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member.

We understand that interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. If this is the case for you, please let us know.

If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.

Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it.

Hi Barbara Jean

On behalf of the Categorization Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members. Please let me know if you are still active, and if so, in which ways you have contributed to the project, or a sub-project, within the last two months.

All of us at WikiTree would like to thank you for your contributions and hope that you are enjoying exploring your roots.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Barbara Jean,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Barbara,

Could you please remove the Category: England from your profile and replace with Category: Town, County. (replacing the Town and county with those of your birth. This will remove your profile from the England category page and place it in its correct town. Thank you :)
