Biographic and Genealogical References

{IMPORTANT EDITORIAL NOTE: the following extract from the Clarence Beebe has significant genealogical information error. The genealogy incorrectly assigns Carrie Beebe of this profile as a granddaughter of Roderick Beebe, son of Asa Beebe rather than as a granddaughter of Roderick Beebe, son of Reuben. The research notes provide an analysis of the origin of the erroneous genealogical information for this family. }

  1. ) Monograph, etc., Page 50. ASA Beebe (355), son of Asa Beebe (167), was born in Colchester, Conn. on 2 May 1764. Married Sarah Day; moved to Vermont, and thence to Munroe County, N.Y. Children: Asa (561), Minoris (562), Orin (563), Roderick (564), Salmon (565), Clarissa (566), Sarah (567), and Lydia (568).
  2. ) Monograph, etc., Page 67. RODERICK Beebe (564), son of Asa Beebe II (355), was born in 1790. Children: Oliver C. (868), George (869), Sarah (870), Deborah (871), Elizabeth (872), and William (873). {This asserted relationship is incorrect, George Beebe (869) and Roderick Beebe II (564), son of Asa are third cousins. See research notes for analysis.}

Children: George (1106), Oliver (1107), Carrie (1108), and Anna (1109) {This asserted father-son relationship is incorrect, George Beebe (869) is the son of Roderick Beebe, son of Reuben, rather than Roderick Beebe II (564), son of Asa as asserted in Monograph, etc. See research notes for analysis.}
  4. ) Monograph, etc., Page 109: CARRIE Beebe (1108), daughter of George Beebe (869)

Research Notes

  1. ) Oliver William (1107), George (1106), Carrie (1108), and Anna (1109) were the grandchildren of Roderick Beebe, son of Reuben, NOT Roderick Beebe II (564), son of Asa. The basis for this argument is as follows:
    1. ) Roderick Beebe II (564), son of Asa, was born 20 Aug 1807 at Winhall, Bennington County, Vermont. He lived in Winhall, Vermont until some time between 1810 and 1830, when he removed with his father to Greece, Monroe County, New York. Next, Roderick Beebe and his cousin Huron Beebe became early pioneers at Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1836 where he married Paulina Warren, and had four children, Attillia, Orrin, Julia, and George Vernon Beebe. He remained in the Cleveland, Ohio until sometime prior to 1860 when he separated from his wife and family and moved to Indianapolis. All of these facts are supported by primary source documentation cited in his Wikitree profile. There is no evidence Roderick Beebe, son of Asa, ever set foot in Salem, Washington County, New York.
    2. ) The 1855 Salem, Washington County, NY Census documents William and Elizabeth to be living in the household of their father Roderick Beebe in 1855, and that the date of birth of their father was circa 1777. Therefore, Roderick, the father of William and Elizabeth was about 30 years older than Roderick, son of Asa.
    3. ) Sarah (Beebe) Almy (870) was born in 1817; Roderick Beebe II (564), son of Asa was only 10 years old at the time of her birth, hence it was impossible for him to be her father. Furthermore each of her siblings had been born before Roderick, son of Asa, reached the age of 21, again facts which are confirmed with primary source documentation.
    4. ) There are primary source documents confirming that each of the children of Roderick; Oliver C. (868), George (869), Sarah (870), Deborah (871), Elizabeth (872), and William (873), were born and/or lived in Salem, Washington County, New York for a significant period of their lives.
    5. ) Finally, Oliver C. (868), George (869), Sarah (870), Deborah (871), and Elizabeth (872) are named as children and heirs of Roderick Beebe, son of Reuben in his Salem, Washington, New York, last will and testament.
