Sir Gen George Beckwith KB was a United Empire Loyalist in the American Revolution.

George Beckwith was born in 1753, the son of Major General John Beckwith and Janet Wishart.

In 1786 he was aged about 34 years. Lord Dorchester running intelligence operations from Quebec, employed Beckwith. Captain George Beckwith was an aid to Major Oliver De Lancey in New York after Major Andre was captured and executed. Later Beckwith was Governor of Bermuda in 1797, a Knight in 1808 - or K.B. for his Capture of Martinique in 1809, a General in 1814. [1] Major Beckwith, was of a mind to agree with Messrs William Franklin, William Smith, Tryon et al about the weakness of the American Army ... his correspondence with Benedict Arnold. [2]

He was the informal representative of the British government In the United States and corresponded with Alexander Hamilton in 1790 and 1791.

He was general and commander-in-chief of the Island of Barbados in 1798; lieutenant-general in 1805; governor of the Windward Islands in 1815; quartermaster-general to the forces in North America in 1814; colonel 89th Foot, 1818; and commander of the forces in Ireland in 1819. George died unmarried in London in 1824, but a letter has claimed he had an illegitimate son, George. George Beckwith at Wikipedia.org. Additional citations required.
