Dorothy Bechler Weds Medical Student Fred M. Rankin, Jr.
WANING SUMMER SUNSHINE glowed softly through the windows of First Methodist church Saturday afternoon
during the wedding ceremony uniting Miss Dorothy Bechler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bechler, and Fred M. Rankin, Jr.
Rev. Joseph P. Rosemurgy solemnized the nuptials at 4: 30 o'clock.
Mrs. Kathenne Bruot presented a half -hour organ recital preceding the service.
Mrs. Knox Kinney, the former Priscilla Simmons, sang "I Love You Truly" and "The Lord's Prayer"
as the bride started down the aisle escorted by her father.
Candleglow from lighted tapers cast flickering shadows over the altar,
banked for the occasion with palms and bouquets of white gladioli.
The new Mrs. Rankin wore an exquisite gown of white slipper satin with marquisette yoke and fitted bodice.
Filmy net sleeves were accented by satin applique and were pointed at the wrists.
The full skirt extended into a regal court train.
Her fingertip veil was held in place by a halo of seed pearls.
It was the bride's "something borrowed," having belonged to Mrs. Gordon M. Linville, the former Evelyn Butler.
Mrs. Rankin's only jewelry was a lavelier belonging to her mother and serving as the traditional "something old."
Her bouquet of white roses was centered by a white orchid.
As maid of honor, Miss Florence Benner was gowned in sky blue marquisette, highlighted by a back panel of cascading ruffles.
A perky net half-hat matching her dress was worn in her hair.
She carried an arm bouquet of pink rosebuds.
Complementing the maid of honor, bridesmaids Miss Jeanne Roberts, Miss Phyllis and Miss Nancy Rankin
and Miss Nancy Smith of Arlington, Va., wore soft pink net.
Elbow-length white gauntlets and bouquets of ivory roses completed the beautiful pastel picture.
Mr. Rankin was attended by Oscar Hunsicker, Jr., as best man.
Ushering guests to their places were William Griffiths, Cleveland, Basil Carpenter, Daniel Miles and George Rankin.
Guests were received between 5 and 7 pm. in the Bechler home, 652 Orlando av.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Bechler chose an aqua crepe floor-length dress with orchid corsage.
Mrs. Rankin wore a pale grey frock with matching accessories and a deep purple orchid.
Before leaving for a honeymoon trip through the east,
the bride changed to a grey dressmaker suit with narrow brown pin stripe emphasized by brown accessories.
The orchid from her corsage was pinned to her lapel.
Out-of-town guests arriving for the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Smith
and daughters. Nancy and Carolyn, of Arlington, Va.;
Mr. and Mrs. Carl heftier, Dr. and Mrs. William Leffler and John Baine, all of Marion, O.;
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Tott. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Griffiths and daughter, Joan, of Cleveland.
The newlyweds have tentative plans to reside in Cleveland during the winter months,
where Mr. Rankin will complete his medical schooling at Western Reserve university.
The former Miss Bechler is a graduate of the University of Akron
and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma women's fraternity.
