1907 Birth and Parentage

Abbie Lee Hesson b. 12 Dec 1907 Colorado, Co, TX s/o Samuel Buddy Beauchamp and Naomi Custer.^[1][2] AC Hesson was his stepfather and Abbie took that surname btw. 1910/1920 (Source: US Census)

Abbie is the first cousin twice removed of Gen. George Armstrong Custer, one of America's most illustrious calvary generals. As a young brigadier general at Gettysburg on 03 Jul 1863, Custer led the Michigan Calvary in the Civil War, defeating Jeb Stuart's assault on Cemetery Ridge while being greatly outnumbered. On 25 Jun 1876 in the Indian Wars, Lieutenant Colonel Custer led the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana Territory against a coalition of Native American tribes and was killed along with a third of his command later romanticized as "Custer's Last Stand."^[3]

1958 Death and Obituary

Abbie d. 03 Aug 1958 Irion Co, TX bur. 04 Aug 1958 Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Dallas Co, TX. He died of injuries in car accident where the vehicle overturned onto him after he was thrown from the car. The accident occurred 5 mi. NE of Mertzon Highway 67, Irion Co, TX. Abbie was married and a grocer who lived in Dallas, Dallas Co, TX.^[1]

Abbie Hesson, 52, of Dallas was killed Sunday when his car overturned 5 miles south of Mertzon in West Texas. Mrs. Hesson told officers he dozed at the wheel.^[9]
