Biography

History of Floyd County, Iowa (1882)
Edward G. Beattie, farmer and stock-raiser, section 23, Floyd Township, was born in Canada West, Dec. 20 1837. His father, Edward Beattie, was of Scotch descent. In 1846 his father brought his family to Lake County, Illinois, and to this township in 1854, where the family still reside. His father died Jan. 8, 1873. He owns 150 acres of well-improved land. He was married, Jan. 5, 1863 [1865] to Elizabeth Saltsgiver. Of their seven children, four are living -- William, Lewis, Rosa and an infant girl. [1]

He was named after his father, Edward Beatie (born in Scotland). [2]
His mother Mary Gardner, was born in England or Scotland. [3] [2]
His brothers, also born in Canada, are William, James and David. [2]

Edward married Elizabeth (Butler) Saltsgiver January 5th 1865, in Floyd County Iowa. She was a Civil War widow with three children. [4]

He passed away March 17th 1916 (age 78 years, 2 months, 26 days) and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd County, Iowa. Cause of death: senility. Informant was Louis A Beattie, Edward's son. [3] [10] [11]
