Frederick Albert Bean is the son of Ithiel Smith Bean and Helen (Underhill) Bean of Traer, Iowa.
On June 10, 1900, Frederick married Susan Burke, daughter of Gain Burke and Sara Orilla (Douglas) Burke.
Frederick was a printer and a carpenter, working at both trades in Traer until 1908. The family then moved to Tomah, Wisconsin, where he was employed in the U.S. Indian Service in the school there.
In 1918, he resigned his job at the Indian School and returned to Traer for three years and then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he lived the rest of his life.
Frederick was a Master Mason, as were most of his sons. His daughters all married Masons.
Frederick and Susan had nine children, three born at Traer, and six born in Tomah, Wisoconsin.
