Edwin Victor BAXTER was born on 27 August 1924 in Elsternwick, Victoria, Australia. His parents were Edwin John BAXTER and Eileen MATHER.

15 April 1941, Edwin enlisted in the Australian Army (in Victoria); Service Number: V13093^[1][2] He claimed to be born in 1923 however an enquiry was held and he was found to be only 16 years of age and was discharged on 18 April 1941.

16 November 1942, Edwin enlisted in the Australian Army (in New South Wales); Service Number: VX130006^[3][4]. This time he claimed to be born in 1921. He was assigned to the 2/2 Australian Field Regiment Signal Section, attained the rank of Signalman and was discharged on 29 March 1946.
