Fred Bauer was born about 1896 in USA. Robert Coles, author of “History of Beaulieu Airfield” (out of print), wrote that he died on 1st or 2nd June 1918. His US records state that he died on 31 May 1918. Fred accidentally drowned while swimming in Hatchet Pond.
Initially, Fred Bauer was buried in St Paul's Churchyard, East Boldre but later, his body was exhumed, transported from Southampton on 22 February 1920 and re-buried at Arlington National Cemetery, USA in Section 18, Grave 77. Records state that his interment date was 5 March 1920 but his tombstone states that he was reburied on 29 September 1920.
