George Baucom died young.

George Washington Baucom, born 22 Nov 1892 in North Carolina, was the third child of Laura (Smith) Baucom and James T C Baucom. He died just over a month later on Christmas day. He is buried in the Smith-Baucom family cemetery in Union County, North Carolina, United States of America.^[1]

Laura's youngest daughter, Seena (Baucom) Helms, once told an interviewer that the reason babies were named after famous people was in hopes that the spirit of that person would help make the baby strong enough to survive. George Washington's older brother named Alvis Valentine for his paternal and maternal grandfathers, had lived only 10 months. Their third child, also a little boy, was given the names of two famous men. Apparently, the combination worked as Adam Columbus Baucom lived to adulthood.^[2]
