Biography
Nicholas William Battle was born on the first day of January, 1820 in Warren County, Georgia and was the son of Thomas and Mary Baker Battle. [1]
Nicholas married Mary Ann Cabaniss in Monroe County, Georgia on May 20, 1846. [2]
Nicholas was the first lawyer to settle in Waco. He served as District Attorney for the Waco district from 1854 to 1858 when he was elected District Judge. In 1862 he resigned his judgeship to join the Confederate Army, in which he served as lieutenant colonel in the 30th Texas Cavalry Regiment.
Nicholas died in Seattle, Washington, where he had moved to live with his sons, on August 22, 1905. He is interred at Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle, Washington. [3]
