Biography

Dorothea was born in 1888. She is the daughter of Henry Batten and Elizabeth Sellick. ^[1]

Dorothea was listed in the 1901 Census. ^[2]

She worked in nursing homes, sometimes as matron. Also in private homes as a 'monthly' or maternity nurse. For most of her life she remained a spinster, but at the age of 54, in 1941, she married Will Penny.^[3]

In 1911, Dorothea was a Probationer Nurse, living in Stanmore, Middlesex, England in the Hendon Rural Isolation Hospital.^[4]
