Kimothy Emil "Kim" Batiste, American Major League baseball player and son of Veloas Batiste, Jr. and Zenobia Denise Simmons, was born in Prairieville, Ascension Parish, Louisiana in 1968.[1] He became a fan favorite as an infielder for the Phildelphia Phillies after he redeemed himself for his ninth inning error in the first game of the 1993 championship series which allowed the Braves to tie the game, by coming back in the tenth with an RBI double that won the game.[2] He had three sons:
He retired to his hometown of Prairieville, and in 2020 was hospitalized in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he died in October 2020 at age 52 after complications from kidney surgery. He was buried at the Mt. Gillion Baptist Church Cemetery in Prairieville, Louisiana. [1][3]
Kimothy is survived by his father Veloas Batiste, Jr.; 3 sons Kimothy B. Batiste, Caleb Batiste and Brenden Batiste; 1 brother Shannon Batiste; 3 aunts Barbara Hargrove, Bernadine Washington and Elder Stephanie B. Bland and a host of relatives and friends. Preceded in death by a proud, loving mother Elder Zenobia S. Batiste; material grandparents Louis Simmons and Olivia Hargrove; paternal grandparents Veloas Batiste, Sr., and Ethel Batiste.[1]
