Biography

Giovanni Bartolotta, the son of Vincenzo Bartolotta and Biagia Majuri, is born on 1 July 1849 in his parents' home on via San Michele Arcangelo in Corleone.^[1]

He marries at least twice, and the records give two different versions of his parents' names. The second record, in 1875, matches other records of a couple by this name and is presumed correct. His first marriage, in 1871, calls his parents by different first names. (A marriage record for "Biagio" and "Maria" has not been found in a review of the matrimonial indices, 1764-1872). Giovanni marries first to Rosaria Rotolo, daughter of the late Francesco Rotolo and the living Maddalena Sciortino, on 13 September 1871.^[2]

Giovanni remarries to Maria di Miceli, daughter of Maestro Calogero di Miceli and Salvatrice Carrabba, on 20 September 1875. This record calls Giovanni the son of the late Vincenzo Bartolotta and Biagia Majuri. That this is the same Giovanni is known, because this record calls him Rosaria Rotolo's widower.^[3]

Giovanni and Maria have at least two children, Leoluchina (c. 1876) and Giovanni (c. 1889).

I estimate Leoluchina is about twenty years old when she marries.

Giovanni, the son, is born around 1889, based on his reported age at marriage.

Leoluchina marries Francesco di Carlo on 12 July 1896 in Corleone.^[4]

Young Giovanni, age 28, marries Salvatrice di Simone in New York City on 5 November 1917.^[5]
