Biography

Children

John and Ruth (Bartlett) Murdock had the following (5) children:[1][2]

  1. Jennet, born 10 December 1711; married Stephen Tillson
  2. Robert, born 4 August 1713
  3. James, born about 1722; married Hannah Tillson and Faith (Shaw) Sturtevant
  4. Ruth, born about 1726; married James Lucas and John Wall
  5. Bartlett, born about 1729; married Sarah Lucas and Lucy (Cobb) Tillson

In 1762, Benjamin Shurtleff guardian of James Lucas petitioned the General Sessions of Peace to have the minor's grandparents help in his support.[3] Margaret Lucas (grandmother of James) answered that she had agreed the minor's income should not exceed 40 shillings, and Ruth Murdock (his other grandmother) should be chargeable for the minor's maintenance together with the income from the estate.[4] In 1763, it was ruled that Ruth Murdock was to pay Margaret Lucas 6 shillings a week until further order.[5]
