Biography

Benjamin was born in September 1901 in Hillsboro, Kansas. He was the son of Henry Bartel and Eva Bartel who were farmers. He accompanied his parents and siblings when they arrived on his brother Rudolf's farm six miles west of Drake, Saskatchewan in 1914. They lived with him for several years.

Ben married Linda Schroder on 3 March 1927 in Drake. They rented a farm until it was sold in 1932. Ben and Linda moved to Drake. Eight years later they built their own home. He was a machinery agent for the International Harvestor Company for twenty-three years. Linda operated the egg grading station for twenty-one years. They both retired in 1962 and travelled. Ben's health failed and he passed away in 1975.^[1] He was buried in North Star Mennonite Cemetery near Drake.^[2]

Also - Ben's niece - Nora Bartel age 6, (Ben's sister - Bena's daughter. Bena died 1914).
