Biography

John was serving in the US Navy as an Apprentice First Class aboard the USS Maine. When the ship was sent to Havana to protect American interests in 1898 during the Cuban War against Spain, the ship exploded in the Havana Harbor in the Disaster of the USS Maine. John was killed 15 Feb 1898 during the explosion.
