Notes from family members and other sources
The family moved to Victoria around 1860, and appears to have changed their name to O'Neill, with husband John Bradford being known as David O'Neill, who appears to have died around 1876. From Teresa's death notice, it appears that there were additional children born after the move to Victoria
Teresa was later supposed to have remarried to a man named Thomas Woodward (the name on her death certificate).
BDM records for these births and marriages have not been found, nor for the children born with the name O'Neill.
The family has always been under the belief that Teresa O'Neill/Woodward operated a hotel in South Melbourne, but has not been able to verify this story.
From perusal of old newspaper records it has now been possible to confirm this belief. The Argus newspaper dated 12 March 1884 reports on her taking over the licence of the New Zealand Hotel situated on the corner of King Street & Flinders Lane Melbourne as Teresa O'Neill (https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/198552742). The same newspaper on 17 April 1885 reports on her relinquishing this licence as Teresa Woodward (https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/6075329) . The same newspaper on 03 May 1894 reports on her relinquishing the licence of the London Tavern, Moray Street South Melbourne as Teresa Woodward (https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/8663821)
When Teresa Barrett was born in 1830, in Dapto, New South Wales, Australia, her father, John Barrett, was 41 and her mother, Ellen Simpson, was 46. She married John George Bradford in 1850, in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She died in 1914, in Collingwood, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 84.[1]
