Biography

This profile is part of the Barnett Name Study.

Moss Barnett was born in 1817 (based on reported age at death). There are som discrepancies as his age on the immigration papers in 1848 was reported to be 26 which would have indicated a birth of 1822[1].

Moss immigrated to Australia per the William Money which departed Plymouth on September 19 1848 and arrived in Adelaide on January 3, 1849. He travelled with his daughter, Hannah (5) and Son, Samuel(7)[1].

In 1849, he was granted a certificate for a general publican's licence for the Myponga Inn[2][3].

In 1870 he was mentioned as being disturbed by knocking at his door of the Dock Hotel in Port Adelaide[4]

In 1881, he sued the Port Adelaide Corporation, when he claimed £150 for injuries received from falling down a hole in a footpath, a verdict being given for him for £50[5].

Moss died on May 14, 1883 in Port Adelaide, Colony of South Australia, aged 56[6].
