Family
Bales married Hannah C Riddle in Owen County, Kentucky, about 1870, where they started their family.
His wife Hannah died in 1879 at age 26 from tuberculosis, leaving him with three young children; Millard, Mary, and Nancy.
Baylis was a fiddle player. He traveled to East St. Louis Illinois, with his sons, for some of his engagements.
He married Elizabeth Conner, born about October of 1859, in 1879/1880. The Federal Census for 1880 shows Elizabeth as his wife, with three children born before that date, living in Harmony, Owen County, Kentucky.[1]
Information gleaned from the Federal Census of 1900[2]show Baylis and his family still living in Harmony, Owen County, Kentucky with five children.
