Biography

Johannes Balliet served with 1st Battalion, Northampton County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Johannes Balliet is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A005560.

Johannes was born in 1746. Unraveling the mystery of the Balliet families in Luzerne Co has been quite a journey. There have been articles written over 100 years ago that just didn't appear from the start to be accurate and my research is still leaving a few holes but it's the best I have to go on at present. It looks like this is the John Balliet in the 1800 census in Nescopeck Twp,Luzerne County. This household was 1 male over 45yo and 1 female between 26 and 45,both Johns wives were 6-9 years younger than him so that could be either wife,it's presumed that Marie Barbara died around 1810 but I've found no evidence of that,Johns second wive Catherine Barbara is in cemetery records for St Johns cemetery she died in 1820. It looks like 1800 is the last year that this John is a head of household. The other member of Johns household don't line up perfectly,I believe the younger female 16-26 would be Maria Barbara but the other 3 females under 10 are a mystery although 1 is quite possibly Nicholas' daughter Elizabeth. There are 6 people in Stephen Balliets household in 1800 and it seems doubtful he and his wife would have had 4 children of their own by 1800.
