Josiah Ballard was born on July 31, 1785, in Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.[1][2] He was the son of Joseph Ballard and Elizabeth Cloyes.

About 1815, he married Isabella Miller in Pennsylvania, United States. Their children were:

He worked as a farmer.[3]

He died on October 10, 1875, in Ross Township, Greene, Ohio, United States, and was buried at Grape Grove Cemetery in Jamestown, Greene, Ohio, United States.[1][2]
